Howlin' Good Halloween Cocktails

Halloween Cocktails Banner

Are you having a spooky soiree? A Halloween Ho-Down? An All-Hallows Hurrah? We’ve got some fun, grown-ups only, cocktail ideas to get your party going with a howl…of pleasure – not terror! So while the kids are out trick or treating, why not treat yourself too?

First things first….colourful rims on the glass turn a basic cocktail into a spectacular one!

You will need:

  • 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • A few drops of liquid food colouring
  • A self-sealing plastic bag

Method:

  • Combine the sugar with a few drops of liquid food colouring of your choice in the bag.
  • Move it around to spread the colour throughout the sugar.
  • Once evenly coloured tip onto a small plate, and you are ready to decorate your glass rims.
  • Simply run a slice of lemon or lime around the rim of the glass and dip it into the coloured sugar and you are ready to go!

Go bold and experiment with colours – red and orange work well with a Halloween theme, but you could try it with green, black or blue for a more shocking colour combination!

Secondly - fabulous glasses, in interesting shapes can elevate a simple cocktail to a masterpiece!

We have a wide range of glasses, from tumblers and brandy glasses, to champagne flutes and martini glasses - and pretty much everything in between.  Think about how you are going to present your cocktails for the maximum impact.

Thirdly - ICE!  Plan ahead...you are going to need plenty of ice ready to go, prepare this well in advance so its all there in your freezer when you need it.  Remember, large ice cubes last longer than small ones, but small ones are better for using in a shaker.

Right, on to the serious business…

A Zombie – or a Flaming Zombie

Every good Halloween party should have at least one Zombie. Super simple and super strong - the Zombie is aptly named as the fruity flavours mask the intense alcohol content of this seemingly innocent drink.

You will need:

  • 30ml White Rum
  • 30ml Golden Rum
  • 30ml Dark Rum (or Jamaican Spiced)
  • 30ml Apricot Brandy
  • 30ml Lime Juice
  • 30ml Pineapple Juice
  • 2 dashes Grenadine
  • 15ml 151-Proof Rum
  • Ice

Method:

  • Mix ingredients other than the 151-proof rum in a shaker with ice.
  • Shake & pour into a tall glass and top with the high-proof rum.
  • Want a Flaming Zombie? Carefully light the 151-proof run on the top and stand back!

The Blood Sucker

This fun Vampire inspired cocktail uses drops of grenadine dripping lugubriously down the inside of the glass to replicate the dripping blood of The Count’s victims…

You will need:

  • 40ml White Rum
  • 15ml Triple Sec / Cointreau
  • 60ml pineapple juice
  • 1 tbsp Grenadine

Method:

  • Pour the rum, triple sec and pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes
  • Shake and pour into a short tumbler, over ice
  • Dip the end of a drinking straw into the grenadine, hold your finger over the end, and use the straw to drip the grenadine down the inside edge of the glass until you are happy with the look of it.  Do not stir!
