Pomegranate Negroni Cocktail Recipe for Dry January

Pomegranate Negroni

Following a Christmas and New Year of excess and over indulgence, many of us swear off the alcohol - for a short while at least, for the year has just begun.   This lack of alcohol doesn't need to mean an end to the tasty cocktails to which we have become accustomed though. Introducing our Book Of The Month for January: Dry, by Claire Liardet features cocktails, cordials and other wonderful concoctions to keep the party going in to 2018, and all are alcohol free!

To help you keep to your new year resolutions intact and enjoy your Dry January, this recipe for a Pomegranate Negroni courtsey of Claire and her wonderful book.   Available in all Steamer Trading & Kitchens Cookshop stores now.

Pomegranate Negroni

You will need:

  • tumbler
  • 200ml pomegranate juice
  • 2 tsp Montmorency cherry concentrate
  • ice cubes
  • 3 good dashes of Angostura Bittersa
  • twist of orange peel

Pour the pomegranate juice and cherry concentrate into a glass of ice, then stir well before shaking in the Angostura Bitters. The drink should have a bitter-sweet tang, so add more Angostura if needed. Twist the orange peel on top of the drink to release the oils.

FLAVOUR TIP:  The cherry concentrate gives an extra layer but isn’t essential. However, I recommend keeping the cherry concentrate in the fridge as a sugar-free cordial. It’s also delicious with hot water.
