Meet the Manager

Maria Redman

I absolutely love my beautiful shop as much as the customers do and am proud to be a part of the Steamer Trading Cookshops. One lady described it as a library for women - true, but the men love it too!

Although perhaps best known today as a smart place to live – Brentwood enjoys the convenience of being close to the capital whilst being surrounded by parks and greenery, together with the well-regarded Brentwood School – it has long been a town of historic importance.

Situated on the pilgrim’s route to Canterbury, the chapel of Thomas Beckett was built here in 1221 – the ruins of which remain in the centre of the town. Later, in 1381, the town witnessed the first uprising of the Peasant’s Revolt, when local men summoned to the town to receive demands that they pay their poll tax, refused. Word of the attempted arrests and rioting in Brentwood that followed soon spread across the country. The White Hart pub, one of the oldest buildings in the town, was the site of the Essex assizes (famous again today as the site of the Sugar Hut nightclub, familiar to television fans) whilst nearby Ingatestone Hall represented the exterior of Bleak House in the 2005 television adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel.

Our handsome Victorian building required extensive restoration before reopening as a beautiful Steamer Trading shop in 2011. Situated over two floors, there is a fantastic selection of kitchen equipment – from the best Japanese knives to the latest espresso makers and every piece of cookware, bakeware or kitchen tool imaginable. Venture up to the first floor –there is a lift if you’re laden down with shopping! - for a wonderful selection of tableware, glassware and design ranges – and we even do wedding lists.

How to find us

We’re right in the middle of Brentwood at 71 High Street, CM14 1NQ. By car, Brentwood is just a few minutes off the M25 and there is plenty of parking on William Hunter Way or at the Baytree Centre, opposite our shop. Brentwood train station is a 5 minute walk and there are a number of local bus services.

The shop has good, single level access to the ground floor. The first floor is served by a lift and a wide staircase. There are a couple of steps to the front of the first floor, although our friendly staff will be pleased to assist anyone with access difficulties. For any particular requests, please let our team know – they’ll be delighted to help.

Awards for Steamer Trading Brentwood

Whilst we haven’t won any awards for our Brentwood shop (yet…), we have been featured in an entire episode of ‘The Only Way is Essex’ – which we think is even better!

Contact Us
