With a first recorded mention by Ptolemy in AD 150, Cirencester (then known as Corinium) is one of the earliest towns in Britain. The town’s Corinium Museum still has an extensive collection of Roman artefacts and is well worth a visit. Equally famous is Cirencester’s Royal Agricultural College, founded in 1840 and the oldest such college in the English-speaking world.

Cirencester today is a beautiful Cotswold market town with a fantastic array of speciality shops and places to eat. Surrounded by open countryside, fantastic boutique hotels and charming villages, Cirencester – the Capital of the Cotswolds – is a wonderful place to visit and explore.

Steamer Trading opened its doors in the town in 2006, in a grade II-listed stone building dating to the 17th Century. Formerly home to the General Trading Company, the building boasted no fewer than four Royal Warrants. Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to keep them, but we did take on a beautiful and historic building. Of particular interest is the first floor – it’s moved so much over the years that even the display table legs have to the shortened to keep them sitting flat!

We’ve got the best selection of kitchenware to be found anywhere in the Cotswolds and friendly, helpful staff – we hope you’ll drop in to visit and stay for a chat, a browse or a cup of espresso.

How to find us

Our shop is at 2-4 Dyer Street, Cirencester GL7 2PF – just at the end of the Market Place. By car, you’ll find parking very close by at the North Way or The Waterloo. Cirencester’s nearest train station is Kemble, 4 miles away. Alternatively there are local bus services.

Although the shop is on 2 floors, most of our range can be seen on the ground floor, which has reasonable accessibility. There are slightly narrow entrances to the back of the original part of the building, but these have been ramped for better access. The first floor is accessible only via a short, but slightly narrow original staircase. Should you require any assistance during your visit, please let our staff know and they’ll be pleased to help.
